Not everybody has the means to buy a $650+ smartphone, and for some people they don't need anything with cutting edge technology. They just want the simple tasks like texting, web browsing, and watching videos to be done smoothly. 2016 has been a great year for people who want a budget phone so here are the top 3 budget smartphones of the year! (Budget smartphone is anything below $400 USD)

Third: the iPhone SE.

The iPhone SE is a controversial third place I honestly couldn't find anything other than this phone. The iPhone SE that launched in march 2016 starts at $399 but that's for the 16gb model so if that's not enough for you then I guess you will have to go for the $499 version which has 64gb storage. The iPhone SE is the best 4 inch screen smartphone out there and there is really no way anybody can argue with that. The 4 inch screen only has a resolution of 640 x 1136 so the resolution is sub 720p. This is not bad on a 4 inch screen but it's really not that special at all. It has a ppi of 326 so it's nothing to brag but it's not too bad.

The phone has the exactly same camera as the iPhone 6s so it definitely has the best camera for any budget smartphone, so if you want camera then thats the one you have to go for. Overall, for people who want a small phone I would suggest the iPhone SE the most.

2nd: the OnePlus 3

OnePlus has made a name for themselves with being the budget king. This year they released the OnePlus 3, and it's definitely great. The 1080p 5.5 inch AMOLED panel is very nice and the fingerprint scanner is as fast as the iPhone 6s's touch ID. The software is very nice with basically stock android but with added benefits only allowed on the oxygen OS. Overall the phone doesn't disappoint in any genre, but it doesn't have anything particularly astonishing about it either. It's definitely an all rounder and if you are looking for a good speedy phone that does all the basics right then you should get this phone.

1st: the ZTE Axon 7

The ZTE Axon 7 is definitely the best budget smartphone out there right now. It has a 1440p AMOLED panel, a nice camera, amazing front facing speakers, and there is really nothing to complain about the phone. You might not like the ZTE software but you can always get a launcher and though the fingerprint scanner on the back may have a few hick ups it defiantly serves well. It's a close match between the OnePlus 3, but if you want amazing screen for the price, and front facing loud speakers, then this is the phone to get. It's really hard to think that this phone is only $400. This is a true flagship killer.

So what are your thoughts? Let me know in the comments below but for now thanks for reading!
